What can therapy do for me?

Therapy supports you to find a new direction going forward. It also helps you make sense of your past. 

The best time to start is when you decide you’ve had enough and you feel it’s time for change. 

As a trained professional counsellor using insight and perception, I work with you to get yourself back on track, to where you want to be.

You may simply be wanting to talk and be heard. Sometimes this is all you need. 

Whether or not you’ve seen a therapist before, you are welcome.

The Space

This is a welcoming and supportive space for short or long term therapy. With trusted evidence-based therapies, we discuss appropriate coping skills and strategies for the future. Once you’ve practised these skills, you will always be able to access them. 

Don’t wait weeks for your first session.

I always have time for new clients.

Dealing with trauma in its many forms was part of my job as an Anaesthetic Nurse and Educator. I would attend to and give reassurance to patients, their relatives, and/or anyone in our working team. I learned invaluable lessons as an empathic professional and a future counsellor. Maintaining focus and mindfulness still informs my practice every day.

Getting a diagnosis can be hurtful or shocking. 'Cover emotions' such as anger - useful for covering up sadness or fear - may have worked in the past. Until they don't. There are ways to cope with these feelings and particular strategies to manage them. This is possible with a personalised plan.

In my practice, I see adults of all ages with Bipolar Disorder. Mood swings can be unpredictable and sneaky, making it difficult to notice that things are not right. Sometimes denial seems easiest - Bipolar Disorder can be inconvenient and embarrassing. So we both work together to find the best management plan for you.

About Me

My own traumas and ‘failures’ have sharpened my insight and compassion for others’ issues. I believe there is potential in everyone for healing – even if that seems doubtful, I will see it and help you find it. I like to work with each client to untangle what’s been distorted. Like the old proverb about fishing, helping people develop their own ways to manage future problems gives them skills for a lifetime. 

 

My Timeline

Nurse, Midwife, Health Visitor (HV)

I completed training as a Registered Nurse, Midwife, and Health Visitor in the U.K and worked in these roles for over 2 decades. 

 

Anaesthetics & Theatre

Anaesthetics and Recovery provided suitable hours of work. Here I became an Educator, and worked closely with doctors, nurses, ancillary staff, patients and their families.

Counselling

I obtained a Holistic Counselling Diploma, then a Graduate Diploma and finally a Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy. 

Quest For Life (Q4L) @ Bundanoon.

As one of the team at Petrea King’s Q4L, Bundanoon, NSW, I counsel people living with all sorts of challenging diseases from physical to emotional and mental.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need therapy?

Only you can answer. Maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed or lonely or just not coping. Simply wanting to talk to someone, without necessarily knowing why, may be enough. 

How are sessions run?

3 ways: face to face in Coogee; online telehealth (Zoom); or group sessions. They last one hour – may be extended if needed. 

Psychology or Psychotherapy?

Clinical Psychologists: diagnose and provide suitable therapy. Little talking therapy. Medicalised training.

Counsellors or Psychotherapists: closely related to each other. Frequently use talking therapy. Trained in listening skills.

Do I need a referral?

No. Just contact via email or text, make appointment, see me directly. An initial consult will explore treatment options for your presenting problems. 

How long do I have to keep coming?

No strict rule. First session outlines plan for future sessions and desired outcomes. Sometimes people are unsure so a session may just be for talking. 

What are your fees?

$160 for 1 hour.

$240 for 1.5 hours.

Rebates are available in certain circumstances.
